A care home visit and free virtual reality tours at Taunton Library are on the agenda in a bid to encourage people to get digital for National Libraries Week.
The theme for this year’s libraries week, which runs from 7-12 October, is all things digital and libraries across the county will be offering a range of experiences including virtual reality, 3D printing and augmented reality.
On Friday 11 October, Taunton Library will be offering free virtual reality experiences from 11.00-12.30 and they will be showcasing the latest 3D Printing technology throughout the day.
During the week some of the service’s outreach activities will have a digital theme, including a pop-up stand in Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton and a visit to a care home in Burnham-on-Sea to showcase Somerset Libraries services. Customers will also be reminded of the e-books, e-magazines and e-audio books that available free of charge to anyone with a library card. Somerset Libraries have more than 11,000 e-books for adults and children and you can download up to ten titles at a time.
There are more than 3,000 e-audiobooks to choose from and over 100 e-magazine titles from crafts and current affairs to science and nature.

David Hall, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibilities for libraries said: “I would encourage everyone to get involved and be part of the many events and initiatives on offer throughout Somerset libraries this week.
“The digital world is moving so quickly so this is an ideal opportunity to explore and discover what is available. It’s a chance to learn with guidance from our libraries teams – and to get to grips with exciting developments.”
