One fire appliance from Minehead and the special rescue team from Bridgwater were sent to a horse with its legs trapped in a cattle grid.

The first appliance arrived on scene and requested a second appliance for additional personnel, sent from Minehead again.

Crews awaited a vet who attended to sedate the animal. Crews then attempted to use spreaders to move the metal cross members but this was not successful initially. Once the specialist rescue team were in attendance, along with a council telehandler, crews used the telehandler to lift the horse at the same time as using spreading equipment and cutting equipment. This finally freed the horse from the grid, after being on scene for over an hour and a half. Duty of care was left with the vet and the rider.
